About

Our Aim

We promote education, culture, sport, diversity and friendship between Pontardawe and Locminé within the fraternity of national communities and where possible with an emphasis on the youth of the communities.

Aside from the committee, a very dedicated team of lifelong members support all our events with their time, hard work and generosity. These wonderful people ensure that the association will continue to go from strength to strength

Our Profile

Our association has a committee and constitution. The committee is elected annually at the AGM as is made up of members of the local community. We raise funds throughout the year in order to subsidise visits which ensures that trips are affordable for our members.

We introduce schools and colleges in the area with their Breton counterpart. Successes include catering students attending our linked college in Vannes, visits to participating schools and arranging “penpals” for young French learners at a local school.

Cultural activities play a strong part in our visits and we have taken school choirs, musicians, dance groups, and four different choirs to perform in France. Locminé reciprocates with folk musicians and dance groups. We  have taken anglers, youth football and basketball teams to Locminé, as well as supporting exchanges between adult teams, and regularly organise Pétanque and bowls competitions.

By integrating host and guests within the communities both at home and abroad, we successfully promote understanding of each other’s cultures. Friendships are made within the communities of twinning that have lasted decades and involve several generations.
